HQV – Hollywood Quality Video

HQV is a Silicon Optix solution for providing High Definition Quality on a Standard Definition Display. Basically it can take Standard Definition TV (SDTV) and make it look like HDTV through filtering and processing.

Based on Teranex technology. They build $60K+ Video processors used by broadcasters to process video. Interesting fact about Teranex. They were formed from a Lockheed Martin Spinoff. Their processors and algorithms were originally designed to analyze satellite feeds. They would determine whether a moving pixel was noise or a launched missile.

Many major manufacturers have adopted this chip. 3M has the advantage of being the first early adopter. Other companies with products coming include Yamaha and NEC.
