Boxlight acquired Mimio - bringing unmatched education solutions

Mimio was founded in 1997 by five MIT students. They saw that their fellow students were so busy taking notes, they weren’t able to pay attention to the actual class. They believed there had to be a better way. By combining innovation with their passion for education, they created Mimio’s flagship product, the ink capture system or MimioCapture. Their passion for creating leading-edge technologies that fuel learning has been central to their mission from day one.

In 2016, Boxlight acquired Mimio. Together, these brands are a leading global provider of technology in the classroom. The partnership enables Boxlight to bring powerful, integrated solutions to today’s education market. Even more inspiring is where the combined passion for learning from these two brands will take educational technology, classroom educators, and students in the years ahead.

"The merger brings a comprehensive lineup of award-winning, proven educational solutions that meet the instructional needs of K-12 districts, schools, and students,” notes Mark Elliott, CEO of Boxlight Corporation. “It allows Boxlight to take another step forward in its journey to partner with schools to create the dynamic classrooms that are needed to educate students today and tomorrow."

Whole-class learning

Whole-class learning is a key aspect of the modern classroom. It’s a terrific tool for introducing new concepts to the entire class, or for reviewing material that most of the students found difficult. Many students grasp new ideas more quickly through whole-class instruction – especially if the material is interactive and engaging. It is a great first step in the learning process, before collaboration or team learning begins.

Boxlight educational technology offers an effective, engaging, and easy way to provide teacher-led whole-class instruction. Whole-class learning can take place with 4K touch-technology or a 130-inch brilliant interactive projected area, and Boxlight software and hardware allow teachers to teach the whole class from anywhere in the room.

ProColor interactive flat panelsBoxlight-Flat-Panel

Boxlight ProColor interactive flat panels are available as wall-mounted or table-based displays in sizes from 65” to 84”. These touch screen displays are now using Boxlight’s new IR touch sensor to support recognition of up to ten points of touch with ultra-high resolution. These displays are lighter and slimmer than the competition with lower power consumption and no heat build-up. They also feature low installation and maintenance costs and heat tempered anti-glare glass. Simply touch the screen to write, edit, or navigate through a presentation. Optical sensors detect touch with high accuracy and fast response time.

Boxlight-ProjectorBoxlight interactive projectors

Boxlight has been developing projectors for over 25 years. Today the company offers many interactive projection devices including the OutWrite, a device which can turn any old or new projector into an interactive device. Simply calibrate the camera module with your projector, install the LightPen software, and begin interacting. Other projectors are available with integrated touch capability. These projectors use IR light to detect interaction at the screen and allow up to 10 different interaction points.

MimioTeach portable interactive whiteboard

Traditional interactive whiteboards can be expensive and complicated, and most must be permanently installed. However, now teachers can place the small MimioTeach™ interactive whiteboard on the dry erase boards they already have, push two buttons, and – just like that – they have a full-featured interactive whiteboard for a fraction of the cost of conventional fixed whiteboards.

The Mimio interactive whiteboard system uses the dry erase boards and projectors you already have. It has a straightforward interface that lets you get up and running in minutes. The Mimio interactive whiteboard system is lightweight and portable, so you can move it between classrooms, and store it safely. Full-featured MimioStudio software for creating engaging interactive lessons is included.
