HoverCam Solo 5 Document Camera

Portable 5MP Document camera

4.0

I am the Territory Manager for Touchboards. I attend all of the trade shows and conferences. I also do all on site presentations and demonstrations.
Here are my thoughts on the latest document camera from HoverCam, the SOLO5.
PROS;
Size-This document camera is very portable with a small footprint so that it will not take up a lot of space on your desk. It also folds up and fits into a soft pouch that is included.
Images- the SOLO5 has a 5MP camera that produces images that are very comparable to cameras that cost hundreds of dollars more. When the camera is at its “standard” position, it will capture a 8.5”x11” area. The head of the camera can be moved up so that a larger area, such as A4, A3, and Legal, can be viewed. The camera has auto focus and an auto focus lock.
Software-The SOLO5 comes with the HoverCam Flex software installed in the camera. It will ask you to install the first time you plug the document camera into your computer. The software is very intuitive and easy to use. It works with Windows XP/Vista/7 and MAC. Some of the functions that the software will allow you to do are; scan, record, turn the image, zoom, annotate, and capture images with time lapse or motion detection.
Camera lens angle-The camera head can be turned up to turn the SOLO5 into a webcam. The arm of the camera is also articulated so that you can lower the head closer to the item you want to look at. You can set the camera head anywhere from 16” to 3” above your surface. You can also turn it sideways to look at items like a fish tank or an aquarium.
CONS;
USB- Since this document camera is software driven, it must go through your computer. This works well when you have an interactive board already hooked up. You cannot just put the camera and a projector on a cart and wheel it where it is needed.
Internal Storage-There is no internal storage. The software stores your images in a library on your computer. There is no slot for a memory card.
Included items-It comes with a soft pouch for storage, a 4.3ft USB cable, and a positioning mat. This mat is nice for use on tables that have a glare from overhead lights.
As always, the right solution depends on your needs, so make sure you do your research.
